About The Position

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for drawing blood, collecting specimens, and running EKGs on patients. They will also process specimens, including accessioning in the LIS, organize and deliver laboratory reports, file reports and requisitions, restock and clean laboratory areas, answer the phone and assist at the front window, and perform other duties as needed. This role helps maintain a smooth workflow for laboratory technologists and requires compliance with Nevada Administrative Code Section 652.450. The employee must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Laboratory Assistant in the State of Nevada.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Lab Assistant with Nevada Division of Public Health (must obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • American Heart Association BLS required (or obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Previous medical terminology and computer/data entry experience highly preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail required.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital or customer service setting highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Draw blood, collect specimens, and run EKGs on patients.
  • Process laboratory specimens, including accessioning in the LIS.
  • Organize, check off, and deliver laboratory reports.
  • File reports and requisitions.
  • Restock and clean all areas of the laboratory as needed.
  • Answer the phone and assist at the front window.
  • Maintain equipment, specimen processing areas, and drawing areas in a clean, neat, and orderly manner.
  • Properly prepare specimens for shipment to other laboratories.
  • Log and process gross tissue samples for shipment to pathologist.
  • Obtain blood, urine, and other clinical specimens ensuring acceptable and properly identified samples.
  • Adhere strictly to two-patient identifier policies.
  • Enter Lab orders into LIS correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Utilize LIS for looking up results, faxing/printing results, specimen tracking, call lists, and pending lists.

Benefits

  • 15% will be added to the hourly rate in lieu of benefits due to 'per diem' status.
