About The Position

The Lab Assistant performs routine laboratory functions precisely and accurately to support laboratory professional staff and facilitate production. The position is onsite in Irving, Texas, and is a four-month contract. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with a pay rate of $19.00 per hour. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to establish work priorities and manage several tasks for efficient workstation operation.
Ability to retain information once learned.
Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with coworkers and internal and external customers.
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; sponsorship or transfer of employment-visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice To Haves

Medical assistant training is helpful.
Math and science coursework is preferred.

Responsibilities

Sort and receive specimens in the department.
Perform routine maintenance on some instruments and equipment.
Centrifuge specimens; print extra labels; record data such as temperature charts; and store and retrieve specimens.
Prepare reagents and/or media.
Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking for clots and fibrin, inoculating, and preparing slides.
Perform assigned quality assurance and quality control duties.
Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
Decontaminate work areas.
Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
Maintain departmental files and records.
Change gas cylinders.
Follow personal protective equipment requirements and safety regulations.
Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs.
Dispose of biohazardous material.
Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
