Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Lab Assistant to work at our Long Beach Central Health Center. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting lab personnel with day-to-day laboratory operations. The Laboratory Assistant will never perform any function that requires a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license or manufacturer specific training. About the position: Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees. Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors. Introduce and prepare biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing. Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted. Data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes. Resolve and document any problem specimens. Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures. Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary. Communicating information about tests and test results. General laboratory maintenance such as cleaning lab equipment, restocking of laboratory consumables on shelves, benches, cabinets, and other efforts to support the laboratories. Collection and disposal of biohazardous and non-hazardous waste, as well as, liquid waste from laboratories.
