About The Position

Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC) is a not-for-profit Oil Spill Removal Organization formed in 1990 to offer comprehensive oil spill response services. MSRC has grown to meet expanded regulatory requirements and the evolving needs of its diverse customer base. MSRC has an opening for a Communications Technician in Long Beach, California, seeking a qualified individual with knowledge in land mobile radio systems, vessel bridge electronics, and satellite communications. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Apple desktops is a bonus.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Knowledge in land mobile radio systems, vessel bridge electronics, and satellite communications.
• 5 to 7 years of experience in the field with demonstrable skills in deploying, upgrading, and maintaining radio, vessel bridge electronics, and satellite networks.
• Availability to report to the work location within a 4-hour recall notice.
• Ability to travel to emergency response locations for an extended period of time.
• Standing and lifting up to 45 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• AAS or technical school training.
• Certifications or licenses such as FCC GROL or GMDSS Maintainer, SeaTel, iDirect, NMEA Installer, ABYC or CompTIA Network+.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Apple desktops.
• Experience with satellite modems.

Responsibilities

• Install, operate, and maintain various equipment, including satellite and VoIP telephone systems, VHF/UHF land mobile radio repeater networks, bridge electronics (AIS, GPS, VHF marine, etc.), and computer network equipment.
• Participate in projects with the Remote Sensing team, which specializes in using airborne manned and UAS multispectral and infrared sensors for tactical situational awareness during oil spills, flood damage, and other emergency response scenarios.
• Travel and spend time aboard offshore vessels, working on systems encompassing all telecommunications disciplines.
