The Lab Assistant is responsible for performing phlebotomy, point of care testing, and patient registration for Outreach clients. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours a week. The role involves auditing charts at client sites to ensure all ordered tests are completed and have results. Responsibilities include collecting throat, nasal, nasopharyngeal swabs, and urine/alcohol samples for drug screening. The assistant will label and package specimens, maintain good client relations with patients and staff at long-term care facilities or provider offices, and keep patient and client records. The role also requires maintaining neat and orderly work areas, cleaning and decontaminating counters and drawing stations on every shift, and emptying sharps disposal containers. The Lab Assistant obtains diagnosis information, performs and documents point of care testing and quality control, maintains and cleans centrifuges, and performs venipuncture and capillary puncture using appropriate procedures. They will also read and document daily temperature logs, register patients and order tests in the Laboratory Information System(s), schedule tests, manage supply inventory, and utilize safety tools for patient identification and specimen labeling. Additionally, the assistant works with facility staff to correct discrepancies in orders, insurance information, or diagnosis codes.
