Lab Assistant III
About The Position
Performs blood specimen collection, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; will perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested. Will process anatomic pathology and cytology specimens; assists pathologists and histotechs, as needed. Will supervise or lead lab assistant I and II positions, as requested. Completes prioritization, receipt, registration and distribution of specimens. Has responsibility for sendout/reference lab shipping, tracking and billing. Will perform waived testing, as requested. Will assist with processing of anatomic pathology specimens including preparation of microscopic tissue slides, staining and specimen management, as requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 years of laboratory experience.
- Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.
Nice To Haves
- Associates degree in laboratory or medical related field from an accredited institution preferred.
- Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred.
- Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.
Responsibilities

- Operates basic laboratory equipment, computers and medical software.
- Accurate data entry into medical software.
- Verifies relevant data and processes specimens ensuring appropriate specimens are handled, packaged and shipped to the designated laboratory according to established protocols and specimen integrity.
- Understands the pre-analytical variables that affect laboratory specimens.
- Applies laboratory medical terminology and measurements.
- Handles multiple tasks and accomplishes work accurately and timely.
- Takes appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
- Handles multiple priorities in a high volume setting.
