About The Position

The Lab Assistant – Histology supports daily Histology laboratory operations at Clin-Path Diagnostics by assisting with slide preparation, instrument maintenance, digital imaging, and other laboratory tasks while keeping assigned work areas clean and organized. The role works closely with the Histology department and supports laboratory workflow through attention to detail, multitasking, and teamwork. Depending on the assigned level, responsibilities may also include employee training, troubleshooting, procedure updates, and providing department oversight when the Histology Lab Manager is absent. The position operates in a clinical laboratory environment and requires professionalism, accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Employees must follow company policies and procedures, including applicable CAP, CLIA, and OSHA standards and established laboratory safety requirements. The scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and safety requirements.
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to perform assigned duties while maintaining laboratory quality and safety standards.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds routinely.
Ability to follow procedures when handling laboratory materials, chemicals, and equipment.
Hazardous waste training is required.
Ability to work effectively with the Histology team and maintain communication with laboratory leadership.

Responsibilities

Load and unload slides according to established laboratory procedures.
Run slides through a series of chemicals in preparation for coverslipping.
Flatten and organize slides in preparation for technician quality control (QC).
Print run reports for completed cases.
Scan predictive marker cases using digital imaging systems.
Perform instrument maintenance, including topping off chemicals, discarding waste, and running cleaning cycles.
Take instruments offline and return them to service as needed.
Clean and maintain assigned laboratory areas.
Depending on assignment, assist with new employee orientation and training.
Depending on assignment, assist with updating and maintaining Accessioning procedures.
Troubleshoot and solve problems.
Maintain communication with the Histology Lab Manager.
Follow company policies, regulatory standards, and laboratory safety requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
