About The Position

Schweiger is a leading dermatology practice with a significant national presence. They are seeking a Full-Time Lab Aide for their NY Pathology office. This role supports the laboratory with specimen intake and administrative duties, and does not involve technical laboratory work. The Lab Aide is expected to uphold a culture of compliance and safety by meticulously following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with accuracy and professionalism.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED minimum required.
• Must be computer savvy and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Six months of experience in a similar role.
• Training and post-training assessment for all role-applicable SOPs and Laboratory Compliance workflows must be completed after hire but before any laboratory work can be completed independently.
• A competency assessment will occur one month before independent work is permitted.

Nice To Haves

• Associate Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive laboratory specimens from couriers.
• Review specimens for proper labeling and acceptability.
• Resolve specimen labeling discrepancies according to SOP.
• Sort specimens for in-house processing or referral to other laboratories based on insurance, provider preference, or specimen type.
• Pre-accession and accession all specimens.
• Transport specimens and other materials between suites 1606 and 1104 in a HIPAA compliant and safe manner, managing any spills or incidents per SOP.
• Enter grossing information received from the Grossing Technician into the LIS.
• Prepare cases for reference laboratories and confirm daily pickup.
• Dispose of biohazard and hazardous waste in accordance with policy and regulations.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Observe blood-borne pathogens policy and use proper personal protective equipment.
• Adhere to all company and laboratory-specific SOPs.
• Complete quality control (QC) logs as required.
