About The Position

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking an experienced La Bienvenida Mentoring Program Coordinator to lead the development and implementation of Part C of La Bienvenida, PCC’s summer mentoring and transition initiative designed to prevent summer melt and support Latine students as they transition from high school to college. This part-time position (20 hours per week) will be responsible for designing the mentoring model, developing program materials and procedures, recruiting and training student leaders, coordinating with internal and external partners, tracking outcomes, and leading program implementation. The Coordinator will work closely with College Access staff, student leaders, and community partners to ensure students receive personalized support and are fully prepared to begin their college journey at PCC.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating programs, mentoring students, training peer leaders, or supporting college access and student success initiatives.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience training, supervising, or coaching student leaders, peer mentors, or volunteers.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, families, community partners, and college personnel.
  • Experience collecting, tracking, and reporting program data.
  • Commitment to supporting historically underserved student populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the La Bienvenida Part C mentoring framework and summer transition model.
  • Create program manuals, training materials, processes, and resources to support long-term sustainability.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support student mentors and leaders.
  • Coordinate outreach and communication with incoming students and families.
  • Assist students with FAFSA/ORSAA, Oregon Promise follow-up, registration, add/drop processes, textbook acquisition, and transition tasks.
  • Collaborate with PCC departments, identity-based resource centers, and community-based organizations.
  • Facilitate mentor meetings, workshops, and student engagement activities.
  • Track participation, outcomes, and student engagement data.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to strengthen future program implementation.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, student leaders, college staff, and community partners.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and help establish a scalable mentoring model for future years.
