About The Position

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education (CBVRCE) is seeking to fill a one-year term position for an L'nu Student Success Teacher at Shipyard Elementary. This role is part of the CBVRCE's commitment to fostering a diverse workforce representative of the students they serve and ensuring the success and achievement of all students within a culturally responsive, safe, and inclusive school environment. The position will service Mi'kmaq students in Shipyard Elementary and Rankin School of the Narrows, and potentially other schools based on student needs. Requirements

Minimum of three years teaching experience.
Designated position for a Mi'kmaq person. If a Mi'kmaq person is not available, it may be given out on a one-year basis.
Proficient knowledge of Mi'kmaq, with an understanding of culture, traditions, ceremonies, history, principles, and values.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.

Nice To Haves

Fluency in Mi'kmaq and knowledge of second language learners is preferred.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with staff to support the implementation of Treaty Education into provincial curriculum.
Collaborate with staff and students to help make the school reflective of cultural diversity and a welcoming place for all students where they see themselves reflected in their environment.
Consult with Administrators and appropriate school staff and external organizations, to identify, develop, and implement strategies and programs for student engagement and success.
Liaise with L'nu students, providing the students with academic, cultural, and language support.
Monitor the academic progress of students through PowerSchool, in collaboration with school staff.
Ensure all cultural support services are delivered with excellence and align with the CBVRCE policies, procedures and cultural protocols (spiritual and traditional teachings).
Recommend strategies and resources as a program planning team member and collaborate with support services.
Create a culturally inclusive space for students, staff, and community.
Advocate for students to ensure their individual cultural and mental well-being is met.
In collaboration with teachers, work directly with students to provide academic support that meets their programming outcomes.
Incorporate cultural teachings into program delivery.
Facilitate special events and/or activities that support students on their caseload.
Perform any additional duties as deemed necessary.
