Kubernetes Engineer

Banner HealthPhoenix, AZ

About The Position

The Kubernetes and Containerization team is part of Cloud Platform Engineering and is responsible for building and operating the container platform that Banner Health's application teams deploy onto. We design and automate the multi-account Amazon EKS environment, the Terraform modules that provision it, the GitHub Actions and GitOps pipelines that deliver to it, and the security, networking, and observability guardrails built into it. Our work allows engineering teams across Banner to deliver clinical, patient-facing, and business applications faster and more securely, and it serves as a foundation of Banner's enterprise migration from the data center to the cloud. Because our platform runs workloads subject to HIPAA and HITRUST requirements, security and reliability are central to everything the team builds. Banner Health is currently seeking a Kubernetes Engineer to help build and support this platform. In this role you will write Terraform to extend our EKS modules, maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and ArgoCD, manage cluster and gateway upgrades, tune platform performance and cost, and onboard application teams onto the platform and its self-service capabilities. You will participate in design and architecture reviews, write runbooks and documentation, and partner regularly with security, networking, and application engineering teams. This is a fully remote position with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday, 8a-5p, and may include participation in an on-call rotation supporting the platform. An ideal candidate would have hands-on production Kubernetes experience, strong infrastructure-as-code skills in Terraform, scripting ability (Python, Go, or Bash), familiarity with AWS, and an automation-first mindset. Experience with Oracle Cloud (OCI/OKE) is a plus, as we plan to extend the platform to OCI in a future phase. This is a remote position. In this role you would work Monday through Friday normal business hours and can be a remote position if you live in the following states only: AL, AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV & WY.
