About The Position

A person in the knockout position performs all required operations to remove sand shell material from a casting following established methods and procedures. This individual will operate a shaker table, other machines, and hand tools as directed. The role involves studying work instructions, completing daily inspections, and maintaining housekeeping standards. Specific tasks vary between East and South Knockout areas, including loading sand, operating knockout machines, cleaning castings, and managing dust collectors. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and the use of provided personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • At least one year in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • General Sight Requirements: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Near Vision Clarity at 20 inches or less.
  • Mid-Range Vision Clarity at 20 inches to 20 feet.
  • Far Vision Clarity at 20 feet or more.
  • Field of Vision Clarity of the entire area that a person is able to see when their eyes are fixed in one position.
  • Color Vision/Discrimination: The need to distinguish between colors.
  • Hearing: Occasional interaction with internal personnel.
  • Speech and Language: Visual comprehension (understanding/processing written word and visual observations).
  • Communication with co-workers and leadership (face-to-face, electronically, and telephonically).

  • Safety Equipment: Protective Clothing (Sleeves - Cotton, Jeans - Must be in good condition, no holes, Molten rated clothing may be required depending on task), Eye and Face Protection (Safety Glasses), Hearing Protection (Ear plugs), Foot Protection (Metatarsal safety shoes).

  • High school diploma or its equivalent is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Use a 3-pound hammer to remove sand from casting.
  • Break sand mold from finished casting, using clay digger or sledgehammer.
  • Sweep, shovel, and clean work areas.
  • Place castings on pallets with necessary paperwork.
  • Use hoist assist to pick up or move large castings.
  • Remove chills and hooks from shaker table/floor.
  • Separate gating into correct bins.
  • Stamp casting once it is knocked out.
  • Use compressed air to clean sand out of small and tight crevices of castings.
  • Knock off down sprues.
  • Study work instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences.
  • Complete daily inspections on tools and equipment, filling out forms when required.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the work area at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain area per established 6S standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisory or leadman personnel.
  • Load knocked out sand onto palmer table (East Knockout).
  • Transport hopper, using the forklift, to South Knockout (East Knockout).
  • Empty hopper, using forklift, onto sand pile in South Knockout (East Knockout).
  • Use forklift to flip large castings upside down onto palmer table (East Knockout).
  • Clean elevator pit (East Knockout).
  • Knock out castings on the outside dock when required (East Knockout).
  • Blowout castings with long air nozzle on dock (East Knockout).
  • Clean outside dock (East Knockout).
  • Use John Deere to load sand into GK (Shaker Table) to transport silo for reclaim (South Knockout).
  • Use Brokk knockout machine to clean castings (South Knockout).
  • Empty dust collector when barrels are full (South Knockout).
  • Check dust collector each shift (South Knockout).
