About The Position

The Kitchen Utility Cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of commercial kitchen and food service areas. This position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, floor care, waste management, and scheduled deep-cleaning services to ensure a safe, clean, and compliant environment for food preparation and service operations. The ideal candidate has experience performing cleaning and sanitation services in commercial kitchens, restaurants, cafeterias, food production facilities, or similar food service environments. This role requires knowledge of food-safe cleaning practices, grease removal, floor care, and maintaining high sanitation standards while working independently and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in commercial kitchen cleaning, food service sanitation, janitorial services, or similar cleaning environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of food-safe cleaning practices and sanitation procedures.
  • Experience cleaning commercial kitchens and removing grease and food-related buildup.
  • Familiarity with commercial cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen, food preparation, dishwashing, storage, and support areas.
  • Perform routine and deep cleaning of kitchen floors, walls, drains, equipment, and work surfaces.
  • Ensure all cleaning tasks are completed according to food safety, sanitation, and company standards.
  • Remove grease, food debris, dirt, stains, and buildup from kitchen surfaces and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to spills, sanitation concerns, and special cleaning requests.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or pest activity to management.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, and scrub all accessible floor areas, including beneath equipment and in corners.
  • Clean and sanitize floor drains, ensuring they remain free of debris and blockages.
  • Scrub and rinse tiled or textured flooring to remove grease buildup, stains, and contaminants.
  • Clean and sanitize floor mats, anti-fatigue mats, and entrance runners.
  • Utilize floor brushes, steamers, shop vacuums, and other cleaning equipment as required.
  • Respond promptly to spills and floor hazards to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Clean and sanitize countertops, prep stations, tables, cutting surfaces, sinks, faucets, and splash areas using approved food-safe products.
  • Wipe down and sanitize shelving, storage racks, and accessible storage areas.
  • Clean walls, backsplashes, doors, door frames, push plates, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Remove grease, food residue, and buildup from kitchen and food preparation areas.
  • Clean and sanitize all reachable surfaces, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Maintain organized and sanitary storage areas free of spills, debris, and clutter.
  • Clean exterior surfaces of ovens, grills, stovetops, ranges, fryers, warmers, and other cooking equipment.
  • Clean exterior surfaces of refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, dish machines, and other food service equipment.
  • Clean and polish stainless steel surfaces.
  • Utilize steam cleaning equipment to remove grease, grime, and buildup from kitchen surfaces and equipment.
  • Clean around and beneath accessible equipment whenever safe and practical.
  • Remove, clean, and sanitize hood filters and clean accessible exhaust hood exteriors as assigned.
  • Clean and sanitize dishwashing stations, sinks, and surrounding work surfaces.
  • Clean the exterior of dishwashing equipment.
  • Empty and clean accessible grease traps, strainers, and drain areas as assigned.
  • Maintain utility and janitorial areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Empty trash, recycling, and food waste receptacles.
  • Replace liners and transport waste to designated disposal locations.
  • Clean and sanitize waste containers and surrounding areas.
  • Follow proper waste disposal and recycling procedures.
  • Dust and wipe light fixtures, ledges, window sills, vents, grilles, and other accessible surfaces.
  • Remove cobwebs from ceilings and corners.
  • Clean windows, partitions, and glass surfaces as assigned.
  • Maintain janitorial closets and storage rooms in an organized condition.
  • Restock cleaning supplies and notify management when inventory levels are low.
  • Perform scheduled deep-cleaning services throughout kitchen and food service areas.
  • Degrease and sanitize countertops, backsplashes, shelving, walls, and other reachable surfaces.
  • Deep clean refrigerator and freezer exteriors, door seals, and accessible surfaces.
  • Perform wall washing to remove grease accumulation, splatters, and stains.
  • Conduct drain cleaning and deodorizing procedures to help prevent clogs and odors.
  • Utilize steam cleaning, scrubbing, and detailing methods to address heavily soiled areas.
  • Support periodic kitchen restoration and sanitation projects as needed.
  • Comply with all company, client, OSHA, food safety, and sanitation requirements.
  • Follow proper chemical handling procedures and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is used, maintained, and stored properly.
  • Report safety hazards, damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, or pest activity immediately.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while working on client premises.
