About The Position

As Mackinac Island’s only full-service, casually elegant resort, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Kitchen Lead to join our culinary team and help guide our kitchen operations while delivering exceptional food for our guests. About the Role The Kitchen Lead plays a key role in overseeing daily kitchen operations, supervising culinary staff, and ensuring high standards of food preparation, quality, and presentation. This hands-on leadership position involves supporting chefs, coordinating stations, managing prep and production, and maintaining safety and sanitation standards. This position is ideal for a culinary professional with leadership experience who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, enjoys mentoring others, and takes pride in delivering well-executed, flavorful dishes.

Requirements

  • Previous kitchen lead, sous chef, or culinary supervisory experience preferred
  • Resort or high-volume dining experience a plus
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional kitchen experience
  • Ability to supervise, train, and motivate a diverse team of kitchen staff
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, organized, calm under pressure, and committed to culinary excellence
  • Ability to handle challenges in a busy kitchen environment efficiently and effectively
  • Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills with kitchen and front-of-house teams
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Must be able to live and work on Mackinac Island during the operating season
