About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Kitchen Cook to prepare meals for residents, potentially accommodating special dietary needs. This role involves adapting work practices for efficient food service delivery, minimizing waste by making the best use of resources, and adhering to safety and security guidelines for food and equipment. The position may involve supervising students, volunteers, and/or residents, and potentially ordering food supplies. The Salvation Army has served people in need for over 130 years, helping over 2 million people annually with necessities like food, clothing, and shelter, while also supporting those facing unemployment, addiction, and family challenges. Requirements

  • Minimum of High School completion.
  • Cook's papers (1 year course).
  • Food Safe 1.
  • Prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions.
  • Team oriented and able to take initiative and meet deadlines.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift more than 20 pounds.
  • Criminal Record Check.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR, First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Training are an asset.
