About The Position

This is a part-time position for the 2026-27 school term. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for preparing food for breakfast and lunch, maintaining production records, adjusting recipes, adhering to sanitation and health guidelines, cleaning the work and serving areas, serving food, monitoring student trays for compliance with the National School Lunch Program, acting as a cashier, washing equipment and dishes, storing leftover food safely, and following safety procedures for all equipment. The role also involves performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
None required experience.
Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, walking and standing.
Frequent bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, turning, crouching, and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs intermittently.
Ability to work cooperatively and congenially with others.
Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
Ability to perform basic math computations.
Ability to keep information confidential.

Nice To Haves

One year of food service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepares food to be served for breakfast or lunch.

Works in accordance with South Dakota sanitation and health guidelines.
Keeps work area clean.
Cleans and maintains serving area.
Serves food.
Monitors student trays to ensure accordance with National School Lunch Program guidelines.
Serves as cashier.
Washes small equipment, pots, pans, dishes, serving ware, and trays.
Stores leftover food according to proper storage and safety procedures.
Follows safety procedures in the use of all equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
