About The Position
The Kitchen Assistant Manager is a key member of the culinary team, responsible for supporting the Kitchen Manager in the daily operation of the kitchen while maintaining high standards for food quality, safety, organization, and efficiency. In addition to strong cooking skills, the ideal candidate will bring excellent organizational and administrative abilities. This position plays an important role in inventory management, food cost control, ordering, scheduling, and staff development. The successful candidate will work closely with the Kitchen Manager to monitor kitchen performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure the team has the tools, product, and support needed to operate successfully.
Requirements
- Previous kitchen leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and sanitation requirements
- Strong inventory management and control skills
- Working knowledge of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and food cost management
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Experience creating and managing employee schedules
- Ability to accurately place, receive, and manage product orders
- Strong staff training, coaching, and development skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow through on responsibilities
- Ability to analyze information, recognize trends, and work collaboratively to identify opportunities for improvement
- Ability to balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on kitchen operations
Responsibilities
- Support the Kitchen Manager with the day-to-day operations of the kitchen
- Maintain high standards of food quality, preparation, presentation, and consistency
- Follow and enforce all health, safety, and sanitation standards and procedures
- Assist with inventory counts, inventory organization, and inventory control
- Monitor product usage and help maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Assist with analyzing food costs and COGS and identify opportunities to improve cost control
- Accurately place and manage food and supply orders
- Monitor deliveries to ensure accuracy, quality, and proper storage
- Assist with creating and managing kitchen staff schedules based on business needs
- Support proper prep planning and production levels to minimize waste and maximize efficiency
- Train, coach, and develop kitchen staff to ensure consistency and adherence to company standards
- Provide ongoing guidance and support to team members
- Communicate effectively with the Kitchen Manager and culinary team regarding daily operations, staffing, inventory, and other kitchen needs
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment
- Lead by example and promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
- Step into a leadership role when the Kitchen Manager is unavailable
