About The Position

Assists in preparing and cooking family style, nutritious meals for pre-school children at the Early Learning Center.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in cooking and preparing food.
• Ability to assist in preparing and serving a variety of foods.
• Good personal hygiene and housekeeping habits.
• Ability to operate stoves and other kitchen appliances.
• Must be attentive to food preparation and safety.
• Must frequently stoop, crouch, and bend.
• Occasional lifting up to 25lbs.
• Current PA driver's license and access to a vehicle.
• History verification showing free of child abuse/neglect by authorities.
• Act 33/34 Clearances and staff health assessment completed.
• Must be flexible to work across three kitchen sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Serves salads, vegetables, meat, breads, ladles soups and sauces, portions desserts, and fills beverage cups and glasses as required.
• Scrubs and polishes counters, steam tables, and other equipment.
• Replenishes foods at serving stations.
• Carves meat.
• Carries trays from food counters to tables for children as required.
• Carries dirty dishes to kitchen.
• Wipes tables and seats with dampened cloth.
• Sets tables with clean linens, sugar bowls, and condiments.
• Wraps clean silverware in napkins.
• Washes dishes.
• Assists in serving food, distributing equipment and supplies.
• Assists with recruiting children by using community resources, staff, and parent contacts.
• Encourages In-Kind participation.
• Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Attends training as determined appropriate.
• Performs other related work as required on behalf of the agency.
