About The Position

The Kinship Specialist-Foster Care position is for individuals passionate about helping children and youth connect with family members. Lutheran Social Services (LSS) believes every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving, and nurturing family and prioritizes supporting and empowering adoptive families to ensure children find permanency. This role is available in multiple South Dakota communities, with both onsite/in-office positions and remote/community-based positions in rural areas. Travel is required for all positions, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
• One to two years related experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully complete all agency background checks.
• Requires active auto-insurance, a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one with approved driver status.

Responsibilities

• Works with a child’s team to identify, locate, and engage relatives for children in South Dakota DSS/CPS custody.
• Connects with the child, biological parents, DSS/CPS staff, ICWA, and other team members to identify potential placement options or family connections that best meet the child’s needs.
• Uses various search tools and resources to locate and connect with relative resources.
• Works collaboratively with South Dakota DSS/CPS as a valuable member of the LSS Kinship Team.
