The Kinesiologist - Chronic Disease is an integral part of the team responsible for providing primary health care to clients with chronic diseases or at risk of developing such diseases, which can be partially prevented or managed through physical activity. The kinesiologist specializes in implementing physical exercise programs and health-related behavior modification, adopting a strongly person-centered approach to promote active participation in self-care. Kinesiology is the science of human movement, encompassing both its physical and behavioral aspects. Kinesiologists promote and implement best practices in prevention, assessment, and intervention to improve and maintain physical fitness, health and well-being, as well as performance and functional capacity in the areas of physical activity, sport, recreation, work, and daily living activities. Kinesiologists possess essential knowledge and skills to contribute to the entire continuum of care related to chronic diseases, at both individual and community levels. As their contributions extend from health promotion and disease prevention to intervention and rehabilitation, collaboration with other health professionals is essential. The incumbent exercises an appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment to determine work priorities, methods to be used and measures to be adopted to deal with unusual issues.
