About The Position

The Mt. Prospect Park District is seeking a part-time KinderKlub Director for its Kindergarten enrichment program, serving students in Mount Prospect School District 57 for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is eligible for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension. The director will be responsible for teaching Kindergarten-aged children and for planning, organizing, supervising, and implementing daily activities. The role operates during the school year, from August through June, with working hours from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, not to exceed 1,500 hours annually. This position requires the candidate to be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and pass a criminal background check. The pay rate starts at $18+ per hour, depending on qualifications, and includes benefits such as park district facility and programming usage, vacation and holiday pay, IMRF pension, and a deferred compensation savings plan.

Requirements

  • Must possess an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Bachelor’s degree and/or experience in a teaching role with college hours.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood, education, classroom management techniques and appropriate guidance and discipline techniques.
  • Must be available to work during the school year, from August through June, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Working the required hours is an essential function of this position.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license to operate MPPD vehicles.
  • Must be able to care, work and relate to children ages 5-6 years old.
  • Must have the capacity to work and maintain composure in periods of high activity and in emergency situations.
  • Must have the capacity to follow through on tasks to completion.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with supervisors, co-workers and patrons.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
  • Must be able to speak loudly and clearly in a large group setting.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function of this position.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, supervision and safety of the program and activities for the children that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group.
  • Execute appropriate practices in early childhood, education, classroom management techniques and appropriate guidance and discipline techniques.
  • Prepare the classroom and clean-ups before and after the day’s activities.
  • Operate Park District vehicles to transport students to and/or from school.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom, in order to provide a warm, safe environment for the children to learn and grow.
  • Provide a variety of activities and materials that are age appropriate and relevant to young children.
  • Use appropriate and positive behavior management when necessary.
  • Develop lesson plans.
  • Oversee the KinderKlub Assistants and work cohesively with others.
  • Maintain open communication with parents regarding participant daily events.
  • Display a pleasant personality and work record demonstrating positive attitude, reliability, initiative, tact and productivity.
  • Attend regular meetings and any other departmental special events as requested.
  • Administer basic first aid, when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned which may be considered essential.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, return supplies and equipment to the appropriate location when finished.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood and Youth Manager, Director of Recreation and/or Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
