About The Position

The Mt. Prospect Park District is seeking a part-time KinderKlub Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. This role supports the kindergarten enrichment program for Mount Prospect School District 57. The assistant will work under the direction of the Early Childhood and Youth Manager, supervising and implementing daily activities for KinderKlub participants. The position is part-time, scheduled Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM, spanning mid-August through May. Additional hours may be available for school days off, substituting, or summer programs. Staff meetings commence in mid-August, and the work schedule may fluctuate based on the school calendar. The role requires the assistant to be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and pass a criminal background check. The pay rate starts at $16.00+/hour, with potential for higher pay based on qualifications. Park District employees also receive facility privileges.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work mid-August through early June (school year).
  • Must have prior experience working with kindergarten-age children in a group setting.
  • Must have the ability to care for, work with, and relate to children.
  • Must have the capacity to provide a high level of customer service to participants, parents, and caregivers.
  • Must be able to maintain positive and effective working relationships with employees, children, and the general public.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Must be able to work with general direction from an immediate supervisor.
  • Must have the capacity to work and maintain composure in periods of high activity and in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to follow tasks through to completion.
  • Must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work, and be self-motivated to achieve assigned goals.
  • Must be able to speak loudly and clearly in large group settings and communicate effectively with others to ensure coordination of work, safety, and emergency response.
  • Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly.
  • Must be reliable and display consistent attendance and work ethic. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Will be required to regularly squat down to child’s level, sit in child-size chairs, lift 20+ pounds and demonstrate large/small motor movements.
  • Additionally, the KinderKlub Assistant will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions including sun, wind, humidity and hot/cold temperatures.
  • Pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the KinderKlub Director in supervising program activities, including classroom preparation, clean-up, behavior management, leading activities, and ensuring overall program success.
  • Be responsible for the safety and recreational programming of participants.
  • Maintain a commitment to the development of each child’s self-esteem by providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment through age-appropriate activities.
  • Enforce KinderKlub rules and implement behavior management plans when necessary.
  • Provide a variety of age-appropriate and relevant activities and materials.
  • Establish positive and nurturing relationships with all children in the program.
  • Interact and build relationships with parents.
  • Integrate children with special needs in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Administer basic first aid when required.
  • Transport participants to and/or from Westbrook School via Park District vehicles.
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary to accomplish required tasks.
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Attend required training and meetings.
  • Dress in appropriate attire in accordance to the handbook.
  • Limit use of cell phones to emergencies only.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment; return supplies and equipment to the appropriate locations when finished.
  • Perform additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood and Youth Manager, Director of Recreation and /or Executive Director, however, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
