About The Position

Highline Academy Northeast is seeking a Kindergarten Teaching Assistant to join their diverse community of youths and adults striving together for academic, personal, and civic excellence. The ideal candidate will be caring about the whole child, strong in classroom management, and an excellent collaborator with teammates and families. This role requires good communication skills, dedication to making a difference for each child, and a growth mindset. Teaching Assistants are paid year-round on a salary and work a 186-day year, including student contact days, professional development, and parent conference days. They are expected to be on campus from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm on most days, and until 4:30 pm on Fridays. A week of professional development is also required each summer. The position reports to the Campus Assistant Principal and is part of the Elementary School Faculty department. Highline Academy is committed to inclusive excellence, serving a diverse student population from various backgrounds and languages. The school offers a liberal arts education, including Art, Music, Spanish, and P.E., and provides differentiated instruction through Performance Groups and a robust intervention program. They are a fully inclusive organization for students with special needs and have a character education program called Reach, focusing on responsibility, empowerment, aspiration, citizenship, and honesty.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • Experience appropriate to the assignment
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Highline mission
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Be able to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, grab or hold with one or both hands.
  • To be able to lift up to 40lbs without difficulty
  • To maintain appropriate demeanor and professional classroom behavior when working with children and adults
  • The ability to sit for extended periods during group training

  • Seek out more information and support from other staff members, as needed.
  • Be welcoming and supportive of families and work to support a thriving home to school connection for our students.
  • Attend all professional development as assigned by their principal and participate with respect and attention.
