About The Position

Great Hearts is seeking passionate, life-long learners to shape students' hearts and minds as Kindergarten Lead Teachers for long-term substitute roles. Great Hearts Academies is a growing network of 49 public, open-enrollment, tuition-free classical schools. We are dedicated to providing students with a high-quality, classical liberal arts education, with the highest goal being to develop intellectually and morally good individuals. As a substitute teacher, you will guide students in various subjects, fostering intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity, and a love for learning. The role involves cultivating students' minds and hearts in the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness. As a Homeroom Teacher, you will create a welcoming and nurturing classroom environment, guiding students to build a deep sense of wonder and a love of learning. Curricular elements include Spalding Phonics, Singapore Mathematics, and rich content in History, Science, and Literature. Homeroom Teachers are supported by an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher in their classroom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree is required for a long-term substitute lead teaching role
  • US work authorization is required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
  • Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
  • Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
  • Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
