About The Position

Holyoke Public Schools is seeking an innovative Kindergarten Dual Language Teacher for the SY26-27 school year. This position is part of a thriving dual language English/Spanish program aimed at preparing linguistically and culturally competent students for a globalized world. The program offers language acquisition opportunities in both English and Spanish through research-based curriculum aligned with state standards. Research indicates that early childhood is an optimal time for language acquisition, and students in dual language programs are more likely to succeed academically. This role will contribute to the district's commitment to equity and its strategic plan, "Moving Forward Together," which focuses on accelerating student learning and well-being.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree
At least one year of full-time teaching experience
Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
Academic preparation or teaching experience with Second Language Learners
Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent teamwork skills
Must be able to listen, speak, read, and write fluently and proficiently in Spanish and English
Required license(s): Early Childhood PreK-2 with SEI Endorsement

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and provide instruction in Spanish aligned with the Core Curriculum Content Standards.
Ensure instruction is closely related to and coordinated with the regular instructional program to meet and exceed State Core Curriculum Content Standards.
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Plan, organize, and provide instruction to assist students in mastering verbal and written skills in English and Spanish.
Meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to promote linguistic, academic, and socio-emotional development.
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicating them to students.
Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility.
Utilize positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Communicate regularly with parents to foster a supportive and cooperative relationship between home and school.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and cooperatively evaluate their job performance.
Assist professional staff with understanding effective strategies and approaches for students in the Dual Language Program through consultation and staff development.
Summarize, interpret, and disseminate current developments in bilingual programs.
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
