About The Position

The Kiln Technician (Shaped Plant) is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of kilns and related equipment. This role involves managing production schedules, maintaining stacking patterns, performing inspections and maintenance, and ensuring product quality. The technician will also operate various machinery, including forklifts, saws, and a backup propane system, and will be involved in palletizing and boxing cut products. Collaboration with quality control and scrap teams is expected to improve efficiency and reduce waste. Accurate record-keeping and reporting are essential components of this position.

Requirements

  • Safety Awareness- strong understanding and willingness to follow safety guidelines and use PPE
  • Computer Skills with Microsoft Word, E-mail, SAP, and MII a plus, but not required
  • Reliable- dependable, positive attitude
  • Basic Math and problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to learn- strong desire to learn new skills and adapt to new process, systems
  • Physical stamina- periods of long standing, repetitive lifting
  • Detail oriented- ability to follow instruction closely, monitor processes, and ensure work meets specific standards or quality guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Print production schedules, prioritize, and prepare daily kiln push information sheets
  • Maintain stacking patterns
  • Efficient and safe operation of all kilns and equipment, including forklifts, transfer cars, tractors
  • Make changes to kilns to accommodate product changes and push rate changes
  • Observe, record, and accurately report kiln temperatures and conditions, perform general kiln inspections and maintenance, record gas and electrical readings
  • Schedule Bickley set-ups, firing dates, and communicate schedule to planning
  • Ensure proper number of bricks are placed on cars, and proper tie-ins are used according to setting pattern. Check height of all columns to ensure the maximum height is not exceeded
  • Visually inspect all brick to insure they meet the scrap guideline. Report any defects to a quality control technician and/or supervisor
  • Collaborate with scrap team to on any ideas to reduce scrap and become more efficient
  • Accurate completion of the kiln production reports
  • Operation the backup propane system
  • Efficient operation in Car Set up area
  • Efficient operation of Savage and Clipper saws
  • Palletizing and boxing of cut products
  • Report equipment problems to maintenance and/or supervisor, entering work order
  • Accurately complete Operator PM’s on equipment
