About The Position

The Kettle Crane Operator I operates the overhead bridge crane (Demag 5 ton / 10 ton) in a safe and effective manner to ensure high quality finished product is produced. This position operates the overhead bridge crane once the steel has been dipped in the zinc. The Kettle Crane Operator I will take the dipped steel and lower it in the water tank to complete the galvanizing process. They will then scrape and wipe any drips of excess zinc off the steel to ensure a neat finish.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Shows advanced capabilities in operating overhead crane equipment.
  • One year of experience operating overhead cranes in a galvanizing facility or equivalent outside experience is preferred.
  • Holds an excellent safety record.
  • Strong work ethic; goes beyond in all aspects of the job.
  • Motivates fellow employees and promotes company goals.
  • Shows ability to train individuals in Kettle Crane Operator I and Kettle Crane Operator II positions.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operates overhead bridge crane (Demag 5/10 ton) in a safe and effective manner: lifts and moves heavy structural steel, steel poles, and other products in various directions.
  • Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
  • Monitors steel products in the process tanks and zinc baths.
  • Inspects hooks and chains and uses gauges to check thickness of the crane setup.
  • Manipulates crane controls to regulate speed and direction of the overhead crane using pedals, levers, dials, and switches.
  • Operates and maneuvers the equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Performs paddling functions to enhance the quality level of galvanized products.
  • Cleans and maintains cranes and hoisting mechanisms.
  • Inspects cranes for defective parts parts and notifies Supervisor of defects and / or malfunctions of the machinery.
  • Inspects and reports materials that are rusted covered, damaged, bent, missing welds, or improperly vented.
  • Wear required personals protective equipment and follow Millennium Galvanizing's safety regulations.
  • Maintains a safe and productive working environment.
