About The Position

The Literacy, ELA, and Humanities K-8 Curriculum Supervisor is responsible for program improvement, curriculum development, instructional leadership, and high-quality professional development across the subject areas of Language Arts, English, Social Studies, Library Media, and World Language. The Supervisor will also oversee other curricular areas, in conjunction with the K - 8 Stem Curriculum Supervisor and Teaching and Learning team as determined by the Superintendent based upon programmatic needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelo r's Degree in Elementary Education or related field of Education.
  • Master's Degree in Remedial Reading and Language Arts or Sixth Year Certificate in Reading.
  • Successful comprehensive experience in instructional leadership and coaching, design and implementation of impactful professional development, implementation of strategic curricular improvements based on instructional practices and analysis of student assessment data, and a proven track record of supporting and enhancing the instructional expertise of teachers.
  • 092 CT certification in Intermediate Administration and Supervision endorsement and, CT certification in one of the following areas: 102 Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts, K-12, endorsement 097 Reading and Language Arts Consultant endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development and support of district goals, school goals, and curriculum objectives, including ensuring the execution of state initiatives/mandates.
  • Collaborates with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Teaching and Learning, Building Administrators, the Director and Supervisors of Student Services, curriculum specialists, and interventionists on all matters related to instruction, including coordination of Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) and/or a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and other supports.
  • Leads the development of a high-quality curriculum in collaboration with other relevant staff.
  • Facilitates collaborative instructional planning meetings, department, or other meetings as assigned.
  • Maintains first-hand role in instructional coaching as assigned (non-evaluative).
  • Serves as an expert in his/her field for the district and takes initiative to remain current with best practices.
  • Serves as liaison to the Board of Education Student Programs and Services Subcommittee and participates in Regular and Special Meetings of the Board of Education at the request of the Superintendent.
  • Plays a key role on the district Professional Development and Evaluation Committee (PDEC).
  • Plans and facilitates district professional learning opportunities.
  • Serves as district Teacher Education And Mentoring (TEAM) Program facilitator and takes a leadership role in developing and leading a high-quality new teacher induction program in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent, Director of Teaching and Learning and other district supervisors.
  • Serves as a District Test Coordinator.
  • Develops, coordinates, collects, and analyzes student assessment data and maintains the Student Assessment Information Database.
  • Develops and maintains budgets for curriculum areas including but not limited to curriculum writing, instructional materials, and professional development.
  • Seeks and facilitates competitive and entitlement grant writing opportunities.
  • Coordinates summer program opportunities for K-8 students.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
