About The Position

The K-5 General Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-5. This role assists school staff in improving and appreciating music instruction. The teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through various planned experiences, including singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening. The position involves providing individual and small group instruction to adapt the music curriculum to student needs and encouraging students to develop their musical skills. The teacher will utilize a repertoire of music literature, implement research-based instructional strategies, design plans considering individual student abilities, monitor and assess student progress, and create a respectful classroom environment. This role also involves implementing district initiatives, maintaining parent communication, and meeting professional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must hold proper certification through the Arkansas Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching music education to students in grades K-5.
  • Assisting staff in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction.
  • Helping students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening.
  • Providing individual and small group instruction to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Encouraging students to develop individual musical skills.
  • Utilizing a repertoire of music literature appropriate for student ages and skill levels.
  • Working collaboratively with content teams and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Implementing effective, research-based instructional strategies to engage learners.
  • Designing instructional plans with attention to individual student abilities and interests.
  • Monitoring and assessing student progress using formative and summative assessments, and providing progress reports.
  • Adjusting instruction within the classroom to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Creating a classroom environment that reflects respectful interactions.
  • Effectively implementing district initiatives.
  • Maintaining consistent and timely parent communication.
  • Meeting or exceeding professional responsibilities and professional behavior expectations.
  • Abiding by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
  • Attending meetings and performing duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Taking necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records.
  • Serving on committees as assigned.
  • Remaining current on instructional practices in education.
