About The Position

Tutor Doctor is seeking experienced tutors and educators to provide personalized, in-home academic support to K-12 students throughout San Francisco. This is more than homework help. Our tutors work closely with students to identify learning strengths and challenges, develop individualized learning strategies, and build the academic skills, confidence, and executive functioning habits that lead to long-term success. We believe that effective tutoring starts with understanding how a student learns. Our tutors use assessment data, school feedback, and ongoing observations to create customized lessons that meet each student's unique needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of formal tutoring, teaching, academic coaching, or related educational experience
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in your preferred grade levels
  • Strong understanding of lesson planning and individualized instruction
  • Ability to assess student needs and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, professional, and able to work independently
  • Must be available for in-person tutoring sessions in San Francisco
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Ability to travel to students' homes
  • Must successfully pass a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting executive functioning skills and study strategies preferred
  • Experience working with students with ADHD, dyslexia, learning differences, or other academic challenges is a plus
  • Current college students, graduate students, credential candidates, teachers, and education professionals are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one, in-home tutoring for students in grades K-12
  • Develop and deliver individualized lessons based on each student's academic needs and learning profile
  • Support students in core academic subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and study skills
  • Teach executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, planning, task initiation, and study strategies
  • Review assessment results and academic data to inform instruction (training provided)
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learners, including students with ADHD, learning differences, and varying learning styles
  • Maintain regular communication with families and Tutor Doctor staff regarding student progress
  • Serve as a positive mentor and role model while building strong relationships with students
