About The Position

The New School is seeking substitutes for part-time employment for K-12 for the 2022-23 school year. Substitute teachers help provide meaningful instructions for assigned classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High responsiveness due to the possible short-notice nature of this position
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
High school diploma required

Nice To Haves

college experience or degree preferred
One-year classroom experience preferred
CPR certification preferred

Responsibilities

Attend a one-time substitute orientation
Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher
Interact in a professional manner with colleagues, students and parents
Encourage, monitor, and promote student progress
Maintain student confidentiality
Assume the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch and activity periods, and in all school settings
Provide a brief report in writing on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each day for the teacher
Work cooperatively with all school personnel
Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
Other duties as assigned
