About The Position

Crescent School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered K-12 Special Education Teacher to provide high-quality educational services to students with disabilities across all IDEA eligibility categories. The successful candidate will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), provide specially designed instruction in inclusive and pull-out settings, and collaborate with families, educators, related service providers, and administrators to ensure students receive meaningful educational opportunities in the least restrictive environment. This position requires a commitment to fostering academic achievement, independence, social-emotional growth, and positive relationships with students and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a closely related field.
  • Valid Washington State Special Education Teaching Certificate or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Washington State special education laws and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience providing special education services in a K-12 setting.
  • Experience supporting students with reading disabilities, autism, cognitive disabilities, or multiple disabilities.
  • Training or experience in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Safety Care de-escalation strategies, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), or similar behavior support programs.
  • Experience collaborating with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other related service providers.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and special education data management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess student strengths and needs using appropriate evaluation data to develop, implement, and monitor legally compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide specially designed instruction in academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional life skills through inclusive, pull-out, and self-contained settings, as appropriate.
  • Differentiate instruction using evidence-based practices, accommodations, modifications, and task analysis to meet each student's individual needs.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate progress regularly with students, families, and educational teams.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraeducators, related service providers, administrators, and outside agencies to support student success in the least restrictive environment.
  • Train, supervise, and support paraeducators and instructional assistants assigned to special education programs.
  • Implement positive behavior supports, classroom management strategies, social skills instruction, and de-escalation techniques to promote student engagement and self-regulation.
  • Assist students in developing independence and reducing behaviors that interfere with learning.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students, including following required procedures for students with significant medical, cognitive, or physical needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, professional development, and other district responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with IDEA, Section 504, Washington State regulations, and district policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
