JV Boys Basketball Coach
About The Position
The JV Boys Basketball Coach will be responsible for the leadership, supervision, and development of the JV Boys Basketball team and will be an active member of the entire Portland Public Schools boys basketball program. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and the Extra-Curricular & Athletic Coordinator to support the overall vision and development of the basketball program. Responsibilities include planning and conducting practices, developing student-athletes' skills and understanding of the game, supervising athletes during practices and competitions, promoting sportsmanship and academic success, and assisting with other aspects of the boys basketball program as needed. The JV Coach is expected to maintain strong communication with the varsity coaching staff and help create consistency and continuity throughout the Portland Boys Basketball program.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and skill development.
- Ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, parents, coaching staff, and school administration.
- Ability to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and positive character development.
- Must have fingerprints scanned electronically and submitted to the Michigan State Police prior to hire.
Nice To Haves
- Previous basketball coaching experience.
- Previous playing experience at the high school and/or college level.
- Participation in basketball camps, clinics, or coaching development opportunities.
- First Aid certification.
- CPR/AED certification.
Responsibilities
