About The Position

This position is for a Girls' Junior Varsity (JV) Basketball Coach. The coach will be responsible for the training, conduct, and supervision of the team, ensuring adherence to school rules and sportsmanship. This role involves managing equipment, coordinating with the Athletic Director, and ensuring athlete eligibility and well-being.

Requirements

  • Valid CT Coaching Certificate #600 or Proof of Application
  • CPR/First Aid Training
  • Concussion Training

Responsibilities

  • Lay down and carry out strict training rules for their squad.
  • Be responsible for their team’s dress, actions, and behavior in games, practice sessions, trips, and locker rooms.
  • Conduct themselves to be above criticism at all times.
  • Take care of equipment after contests and supervise locker rooms before and after practice and games.
  • Arrange all details on trips and maintain strict supervision of team members.
  • Cooperate fully with the Athletic Director in arranging schedules, hiring of officials, and purchasing equipment.
  • Ensure all students out for their sport have a physical examination, parent’s consent, eligibility clearance, and medical insurance.
  • Make a master eligibility sheet for the athletic director of their complete squad.
  • Select student managers and train them as to their duties.
  • Issue equipment to their squad and organize an efficient system for equipment issuance.
  • Instruct their squad as to the proper care of their equipment.
  • Collect and inventory equipment at the end of the season.
  • Cooperate with the Athletic Director in providing publicity materials.
  • Provide a system of awarding "letters" that is fair and concise.
  • Assume strong leadership in directing assistants.
  • Take a personal interest in the athletes and their problems, and provide counseling when necessary.
  • Furnish all vital information and statistics, schedules, and names of personnel to the press.
  • Exemplify good sportsmanship by abiding by the rules of conduct and courtesy.
  • Be responsible for locker room and shower room supervision during dressing periods.
  • Turn off all lights and showers, and ensure all players have left the locker room.
  • Ensure the locker room is locked when leaving, being the last to leave the premises.
  • Provide the Athletic Director with a season report immediately at the close of each sports season.
  • Ensure injuries are properly taken care of and the trainer is aware of all injuries, requiring a written report.
  • Perform janitorial duties when calling a practice session outside of a regular school day, including turning off lights and showers, ensuring players have left, and securing the school.
  • Supervise the exercise room and gymnasium at all times with certified personnel.
  • Ensure all athletes are picked up before leaving the premises.
  • Scouting and reporting of opponents.
