About The Position

This role involves coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in baseball. The coach will follow the system of play as affirmed by the Head Coach, and will plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season, in concert with the Head Coach and Activities Director. The coach will work closely with the Head Coach in matters pertaining to scheduling and finance, and will provide supervision for athletes in the dressing room, during practice, and during travel to and from away games. Responsibilities include maintaining necessary attendance forms and insurance records, promoting good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship, and desirable pupil/teacher relationships. The coach will oversee safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted, and will follow established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition. Discipline and sportsmanlike behavior will be enforced at all times, with penalties established for breaches of these standards. The coach will recommend equipment purchases to the Head Coach, and will be responsible for the care of equipment, supplies, and physical properties of the sport. An inventory will be submitted immediately following the season. Athletes will be excluded from practice or games if they have been truant or received an unexcused absence that day. Specific reports are to be submitted to the Activities Director, including rosters, award winners, transfer students, season scores, and outstanding items. A roster will be prepared prior to the team being excused from school, and the manager will be provided with a list of duties. Attendance at all organizational meetings as required by the Activities Director is also expected.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies of the district, athletic conferences, and O.S.A.A.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with disgruntled adults and students
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate required
  • Valid Oregon driver license
  • ASEP Certified
  • Clearance of a criminal background check and fingerprinting

  • Follows the system of play to be used as affirmed by the Head Coach.
  • Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season, in concert with the Head Coach and Activities Director.
  • Works closely with the Head Coach in matters pertaining to scheduling and finance.
  • Provides supervision for athletes in the dressing room and during practice, as well as to and from home on away games.
  • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, etc.
  • Promotes good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil/teacher relationships.
  • Oversees at all times that students are present the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted.
  • Follows established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Recommends to the Head Coach the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the care of equipment, supplies and physical properties of the sport.
  • Submits an inventory for the sport immediately following the close of the season.
  • Requires submission of athlete turn-out forms signed by the Activities Director prior to issuing equipment for the sport.
  • Responsible for securing the home facility after a home or away game contest if the custodians are not available.
  • Excludes athletes from practice or game if they have been truant or received an unexcused absence that day.
  • Turns in the following to the Activities Director: a) a roster with all necessary personal data at least one week before the first game, b) a list of award winners immediately following the season, c) a list of transfer students so that state certification can promptly be accomplished, d) a list of season scores and any outstanding items of the season.
  • Prepares athletic team roster two days prior to team's being excused from school and turns it in to the Activities Director.
  • Provides the manager with a list of all duties he/she is to perform on practice days and days of games.
  • Attends all organizational meetings as required by the Activities Director.
