The Juvenile Supervision Officer (JSO) is responsible for the direct supervision of all resident's daily activities, including educational programs, basic arts and crafts, and outdoor activities, while maintaining safety and order. This role may require one-to-one supervision for residents with moderate to high suicide risk. The JSO assigns and supervises residents in daily housekeeping duties, ensuring the environment is safe, clean, and secure. They implement treatment plans, corrective disciplinary strategies, and treatment intervention programs, ensuring residents understand their responsibilities and appropriate behaviors. The JSO facilitates cognitive skill groups and teamwork activities, observes and documents resident behavior, and maintains discipline through consistent enforcement of rules. They summarize information and complete written reports on incidents, provide individual and crisis coping techniques such as de-escalation skills, and monitor security and fire alarm systems, including closed-circuit monitors. Additionally, the JSO transports residents to off-site locations, maintains communication with other staff for continuity of care, and participates in committees and special projects. They may assist in investigating incidents and must properly apply physical restraints when necessary, adhering to Handle With Care techniques. The JSO must comply with professional conduct and ethical behavior standards set by PREA, TJJD, Cameron County, and CCJJD, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual abuse and harassment, and reporting any violations immediately. They must also comply with TJJD's Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) standards and cooperate with investigations. The JSO is expected to be a role model, abide by all federal, state, and local laws, attend required staff meetings and trainings, and perform other duties as assigned. Employment is contingent upon grant availability, and CCJJD is an At-Will employer.
