About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is a multi-faceted agency that serves juveniles of the Commonwealth. While striving to hold youth accountable for their actions, the Department creates opportunities for sentenced, committed, probated, or detained youth to develop social and career skills that will equip them for re-entry into their communities as productive and responsible citizens. Requirements

  • A master's degree in social work, sociology, juvenile justice, corrections or a related field.
  • Must have four years of professional experience in providing services to juvenile offenders and/or adult offenders.
  • A bachelor's degree supplemented by two years of professional social work experience will substitute for the required master's degree.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees engaged in providing professional social work services to juveniles and oversees programs in the district.
  • Plans, assigns and evaluates the work of employees responsible for ensuring delivery of services to juvenile offenders in a defined geographical area.
  • Provides supervision to district staff providing necessary direction and conducts employee performance evaluations according to regulations and statutes.
  • Oversees training of juvenile workers.
  • Conducts regular conferences with workers to review juvenile casework.
  • Works closely with unit personnel to provide guidance and counseling on the more complex and difficult cases.
  • Directs and oversees the resolution of crisis situations with juveniles and their families.
  • Attends District Court sessions.
  • Attends community meetings and serves as a member of local community committees and workgroups.
  • Compiles monthly reports on district operations.
  • Monitors budget.
  • Travel is required.
