About The Position

This position is responsible for supporting the school in collaboration with the Sioux City Community Schools and Juvenile Courts. The role involves assisting school officials with student attendance and discipline, supporting Juvenile Court with intake and monitoring students, and accessing community and school resources to help students achieve academic success. The liaison will conduct home visits to motivate at-risk students and their families, respond to student referrals, conduct group and individual sessions, and work with students, parents, and staff on strategies to increase engagement and graduation rates. The position also involves monitoring academic and behavior progress, participating in public relations, submitting required documentation, keeping daily logs of contacts, and maintaining professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or social work.
  • Experience working with students, their families, and community in an educational setting.
  • Experience in developing culturally relevant strategies that involve parents, schools, and the community in preventing students from dropping out of school.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Ability to handle a large number of complex tasks and assignments at the same time through effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of data.
  • Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.
  • Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines.
  • Attention to detail is necessary.
  • Competent in technology.
  • Capability to collect and sort data through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Support school officials with student attendance and discipline issues.
  • Support Juvenile Court with intake and monitoring students affiliated with Juvenile Court Services.
  • Assist in accessing community and school resources to enable students to achieve academic success and education goals.
  • Conduct home visits to motivate students at risk of failure in school and encourage their families to promote academic achievement and improve school attendance.
  • Respond to student referrals, conduct various group and individual student sessions/activities.
  • Work with students, their parents, and staff on effective strategies to increase school engagement and graduation rates.
  • Monitor academic and behavior progress through district generated reports.
  • Participate and contribute to department/program public relations.
  • Submit required records and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Keep a daily log of student/parent contacts.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner in dealing with students, employees, and the public.
