About The Position
The primary goal of this role is to positively impact the lives of youth in the Department of Juvenile Justice by maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment. This position involves supervising, guiding, and instructing subordinate staff, acting as a shift supervisor for a specific unit or program, and ensuring the custody and care of youth through adherence to department policies and standard operating procedures. The role also includes maintaining order through behavioral management, planning and supervising the work of assigned staff, completing administrative tasks, supervising security operations, and enforcing all facility rules.
Requirements
- A High school diploma or GED.
- One year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or equivalent.
- Two years of military experience at rank E-5 or higher.
- Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities
- Providing support, guidance, and structure by modeling pro-social behaviors such as empathy, cooperation, and professionalism.
- Supervising, guiding, and instructing the work assignments of subordinate staff.
- Acting as a shift supervisor for a specific unit or program.
- Assuming responsibility for the custody and care of youth through adherence to department policies and standard operating procedures.
- Maintaining order by intervening in inappropriate behavior and through active supervision.
- Planning and supervising the work of assigned staff, including training, selecting, and orienting new subordinates.
- Completing paperwork, maintaining records, and developing work and security procedures.
- Supervising contraband searches, inspections, and maintaining control over logs, keys, tools, and weapons.
- Enforcing all facility rules and reviewing youth information to identify issues requiring special attention.
