About The Position

Southbridge Public Schools is seeking a Junior Varsity Cheerleading Coach for the 2026–2027 school year. The coach is accountable for the entire program and oversees its operations, including athlete safety and athletic equipment inventory. The role promotes academics before athletics, supports student participation and sportsmanship, and builds positive relationships with students, families, and the community. The position reports to the Athletic Director. Southbridge Public Schools serves approximately 2,200 students across six schools and is undergoing district-wide turnaround efforts. The district emphasizes high expectations, consistent support, a safe and positive school climate, social justice, and improving student outcomes. Requirements

Prior coaching experience in a college, high school, or recognized and successful program.

Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of the program, including the safety and inventory of athletic equipment.
Communicate with the Athletic Director about incidents involving student athletes or parental concerns.
Promote academics before athletics by monitoring academic performance and enforcing eligibility.
Provide all student athletes with the opportunity to compete while promoting sportsmanship.
Build positive relationships with the community to promote the sport.
Demonstrate the skills, drills, and fundamentals of cheerleading.
Manage and take inventory of equipment.
Attend all weekend activities.
Supervise athletes before, during, and after practices, and during activities and events.
Attend coaching meetings as assigned.
Evaluate student athletes’ progress.
Assist with fundraising and promote community support and awareness.
Set scrimmages, game schedules, and practice schedules for the program.
Perform other duties assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Varsity Coach.
