About The Position

Thales Canada, Defence & Security is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer for the IMIC3 project in Ottawa. This role involves supporting the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of core system components within the Systems Engineering group. Responsibilities include IT tasks such as managing COTS software, maintaining Windows operating systems, PowerShell scripting, and managing firewalls and server racks. The role also requires managing customer documentation to ensure accuracy and conciseness. The IMIC3 system is a state-of-the-art technology designed to revolutionize how Canada's Navy and Coast Guard commanders collaborate, enabling secure, real-time data exchange for more coordinated maritime operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to succeed in cross-functional/multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to obtain clearances as specified under the Regulatory Compliance section
  • University or college degree in engineering or a related discipline
  • Eligibility or ability to obtain authorization for access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • Eligibility to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • Ability to obtain a Canadian Enhanced Reliability security clearance

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Tailor the system engineering process, practices and tools
  • Provide timely and accurate status updates
  • Develop the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements
  • Identify, characterize, and describe issues in the system or its design through problem reports and document and design reviews
  • Author technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces, and installation elements
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the designs are consistent with needs, desires, and concerns of the end-users
  • Collaborate with other functions during the implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs
  • Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation, integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements
  • Support the installation and/or integration testing of the systems remotely or on customer site
  • Installing and configuring servers and software
  • Managing hardware and software obsolescence
  • Authoring documentation
  • Creation of tools for customers to upgrade their configurations
  • Answering technical questions for customers and product management
  • Supporting the configuration & maintenance of a test lab for the team
  • Writing power shell scripts
  • Contributing to quotes and estimates for work on upcoming tasks
