Pickle Robot Company•Boston, MA
•$97,500 - $123,000•Onsite

About The Position

Pickle Robot is seeking an early-career Junior Systems Engineer to help define and verify the requirements for its robotic unloading systems. The role involves writing and maintaining system requirements, tracing product needs through testing, and helping author design documents and interface definitions that establish shared expectations across hardware and software teams. The engineer will work with Product, Engineering, and the System Verification and Test team, and spend time with robots to ensure requirements reflect actual system behavior. Requirements developed in this role will be verified on robots in the company’s warehouse and at customer sites. The position is suited to someone early in their career who values structure, asks precise questions, and wants to learn how a complex robot is developed across mechanical, electrical, software, and test disciplines. Onsite presence is expected at least three days per week at the Charlestown, Massachusetts offices. The stated annual salary range is $97,500–$123,000. Final compensation depends on the level at which the candidate is hired, experience, and location. Pickle Robot offers health, dental, and vision insurance; unlimited vacation; paid federal and state holidays; 401(k) contributions of 5% of salary; company-covered travel expenses; and other perks.

  • Strong ownership, including seeing problems through to completion and acting without waiting to be asked.
  • Internship, co-op, or student project experience—such as competition teams or capstone projects—in which the candidate defined requirements, ran tests, or integrated hardware and software.
  • Precise technical writing skills, including the ability to turn ambiguous needs into requirements that can be built and tested against.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to keep a large body of requirements consistent and up to date.
  • Curiosity about how mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems interact, and willingness to examine their details.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams and contribute to design reviews.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering is preferred; degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field will be considered alongside relevant systems engineering experience.
  • Expected onsite presence at least three days per week at the Charlestown, Massachusetts offices.

  • One to two years of industry experience.
  • Familiarity with Jira or a similar tracking tool.
  • Exposure to requirements management or test planning.
  • Python scripting.
  • Experience with robots or other hardware in a production setting.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain clear, measurable, testable system requirements and keep the requirements register accurate as designs change.
  • Trace product requirements to system requirements and test cases, identify coverage gaps, and drive them to closure.
  • Prepare requirements for review and approval with Engineering, Test, and Systems, and resolve feedback and rejections.
  • Work with the System Verification and Test team to ensure test cases trace to requirements and verification coverage is complete.
