As a Junior Systems Designer you are working with the project team on problem solving efforts and project execution. You will work with a highly capable team driven to provide solutions to customers’ problems, fostering customer relationships and building customer loyalty. Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree in Systems Design, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in mechanical, electrical, controls or systems engineering support, preferably in an automation environment and with customer interaction is an asset.
  • Experienced in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are required.
  • Ability to lead or work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Learning technical aspects of a project and overseeing engineering requirements specific to the project.
  • Working with the customer, ATS project manager, and ATS project team for the creation and validation of system requirements.
  • Deep diving into customer processes and becoming the local system process subject matter expert.
  • Driving improvements in quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Assisting in problem solving and coordination of project engineering work.
  • Providing project support during system startup, integration and buy-off.
  • Actively participating in design reviews.
  • Assisting in systems’ design, development, execution planning and monitoring.
  • Managing project technical risk; ensuring to highlight high risk areas and create mitigation plans to reduce risk.
  • Conducting experiments on high-risk system elements to validate design assumptions.
  • Managing and monitoring ‘process critical’ third party equipment vendors to ensure compliance with requirements and adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Conducting acceptance tests and approving ‘process critical’ third party equipment.
  • Developing and designing POP (proof of principle) studies to prove high risk elements and design ideas.
  • Preparing systems-level design calculations including but not limited to: Systems Accuracy, Metrology / Instrumentation, Kinematics, Reliability / Maintainability, Process Capability, Gauge Capability, Cycle-time, Machine Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Performing hands-on testing.
  • Preparing, and assisting in compiling and documenting design requirements (ex. Functional Requirements Specifications).
  • Evaluating and documenting design outputs for conformance to design requirements (ex. Acceptance Test Plans).
  • Evaluating and documenting overall machine system performance (MOEE, Cycle time, Availability, Yield).
  • Assisting in evaluating and preparing Failure Modes and Effects analyses (pFMEAs, mFMEAs, dFMEAs) as required.
  • Assisting in evaluating and preparing machinery Safety Risk Assessments.
  • Learning, understanding and flowing down customer and industry requirements to ensure overall machine compliance.
  • Creating technical specifications to purchase and validate specialized third-party equipment (ex. Vendor Technical Specifications).
  • Assisting in activities for product improvements or first-of-a-kind innovations.
  • Recognizing the onset of technical problems in various disciplines and driving effort efficiencies or adjustments where to improve the customer’s process or systems.
  • Following engineering processes and providing feedback to ensure to assist in the continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensuring effective communication and coordination of assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project participants, including customers.
  • Participating in customer meetings and resolving customer/engineering and management project issues.
  • Learning and identifying applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and ATS standards.
  • Coordinating the collection and dissemination of technical information within the company and with the customer.
  • Ensuring that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Working in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Performing other specialized duties or projects as assigned.
