About The Position

SMX is looking for a highly motivated Systems Administrator with demonstrated experience to maintain various IT systems. This position will provide On-Site support at our customers location on Patuxent River NAS in southern Maryland. As the Junior Systems Administrator, you will join a team of highly driven, supportive, and skilled professionals engaged in supporting program management, technical, or business cases across the NAVAIR community.

Requirements

  • Clearance Required: Top Secret
  • At least one year of experience in system administration performing the functional duties of this position
  • CompTIA Security+ or another DoD 8570-compliant certification
  • Knowledge of system administration principles, theories, and concepts
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and user account issues
  • Experience supporting Windows workstations, servers, and peripheral devices

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline
  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Experience administering IT assets and configuration management processes
  • Experience supporting end users in an enterprise environment
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery concepts
  • Experience in a DoD or NAVAIR environment

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems, or a segment of a network system
  • Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing IT systems
  • Perform maintenance to ensure IT Systems operate correctly with minimal interruption
  • Optimize the functionality and performance of hardware and software systems
  • Implement and maintain backup recovery plans and capabilities
  • Respond to unexpected or unauthorized service interruptions and outages
  • Diagnose software and hardware failures to resolution
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, cybersecurity requirements, and configuration management processes
  • Test operating system and software upgrades, patches, and hot fixes
  • Administer and maintain newly deployed hardware and software assets throughout their lifecycle
  • Assist users with workstation setup, account provisioning, and access requests
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of desktop, server, and peripheral equipment
  • Maintain system documentation, inventories, and configuration records
