The Junior Solutions Architect role provides an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise architecture and solution design within Information Technology Services (ITS) at SAIT. Working under the guidance of senior solution architects and the Enterprise Architecture team, the intern will assist in analyzing business needs, documenting solution designs, and supporting technology initiatives that align with SAIT’s strategic goals. This role focuses on learning and development, with the student contributing to activities such as gathering requirements, creating architectural documentation, supporting system integration efforts, and evaluating technologies. The intern will gain exposure to enterprise systems, cloud platforms, and architectural best practices while helping ensure solutions align with governance standards and business objectives. The student will play a supporting role in solution analysis, documentation, and coordination across technical teams, building foundational skills in enterprise architecture. Please note that this position is open exclusively to candidates who are currently enrolled as SAIT students.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a SAIT Information Technology, Engineering, or applicable program
  • Basic understanding of IT systems, applications, and infrastructure concepts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly (written and verbal)
  • Interest in enterprise architecture, solution design, or IT strategy
  • Experience with documentation tools, diagrams (e.g., Visio)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and willingness to learn

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) or modern technologies is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assist in gathering and documenting business and technical requirements for projects and initiatives
  • Support the creation of solution architecture diagrams, documentation, and design artifacts and maintain architecture repositories
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, and infrastructure teams to understand and support solution designs
  • Help evaluate technologies and tools to support business and IT objectives
  • Contribute to maintaining documentation of current (“as-is†) and future (“to-be†) solutions
  • Assist with researching emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Support Enterprise Architecture governance activities by helping ensure proposed solutions align with architecture standards, principles and best practices
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and project discussions to gain exposure to enterprise architecture processes
  • Help identify opportunities for process improvement, documentation, and standardization
