About The Position

NinjaOne is seeking a Junior Software Packaging Engineer to join their Catalog team. This role involves researching vendor applications, analyzing installers, and building package metadata to power the company's RMM's third-party patching engine. The engineer will work within the Software Engineering team, collaborating with Product Managers, Software Development Engineers, and Support Engineers to deliver automation content for NinjaOne clients. The position offers flexibility for remote work within specific US states, with physical offices available in Austin, TX, and Tampa, FL for those preferring a hybrid option. The company's tech stack includes Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang, and Postgres, running on AWS.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of professional experience in a software development, scripting, or technical IT role.
  • Familiarity operating at the Windows OS level: registry structure (HKLM/HKCU, including how WOW6432Node redirects 32-bit apps on 64 bit systems), file system layout and permissions, and how services and processes work.
  • Experience with Scripting languages or OOP languages
  • Working knowledge of Git
  • Comfortable using AI coding assistants like Copilot or Claude as part of your normal workflow

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on PowerShell experience.
  • Some exposure to macOS packaging or Zsh scripting.
  • Exposure to endpoint management platforms.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with a unit testing framework
  • Exposure to VM-based software validation workflows

Responsibilities

  • Build high-quality software packages for the patching platform, including installer metadata, detection logic, and automation scripts.
  • Analyze vendor installers (MSI, EXE, custom frameworks) to determine silent install parameters, upgrade behavior, and OS compatibility.
  • Automatically detect new software versions from vendor websites.
  • Develop endpoint-side scripts to download, install, upgrade, and verify third-party applications.
  • Research vendor release patterns, installer technologies, and best practices for secure and reliable patching.
  • Define and maintain packaging standards that improve consistency, reliability, and security across all supported applications.
  • Continuously enhance the package catalog to reflect evolving IT and security requirements.
  • Build one-off or urgent automation scripts in response to emerging vulnerabilities, vendor changes, or customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot packaging issues, installer failures, and automation edge cases.
  • Partner with Support and Engineering teams to resolve customer-impacting issues quickly and effectively.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
