About The Position

KBR's National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. KBR is seeking a highly motivated Junior Software Engineer to join us in supporting our great nation, supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) development team in Colorado Springs, CO. At KBR, you'll be working on prototype projects that support the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s most mission-critical objectives. The Air Force Research Laboratory is the primary scientific research and development center for the Department of the Air Force. AFRL plays an integral role in leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for our air, space, and cyberspace force. Requirements

Knowledge of software development principles and object-oriented programming concepts
Experience through academic, internship, research, or personal projects using Java, Python, or another object-oriented language
Understanding of software development lifecycle concepts including design, implementation, and testing
Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative development environments
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and solve technical problems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Active U.S. Government Top Secret / SCI security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
0–2 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

Exposure to data processing systems, networking, or distributed computing concepts
Familiarity with XML, JSON, Protocol Buffers, or similar data formats
Internship, research, or academic project experience developing software applications
Exposure to Agile development methodologies
Security+ certification
Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and desire to continuously learn new technologies

Responsibilities

Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of software for high-velocity data stream processing systems
Support implementation of software features and enhancements under guidance from senior engineers
Develop and maintain code using established engineering standards and best practices
Participate in software testing activities, including unit, integration, and system testing
Troubleshoot and resolve software issues in development environments
Assist with analysis of customer requirements and contribute to software design efforts
Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to build engineering knowledge
Generate and update technical documentation and project artifacts
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support delivery objectives
