Junior Software Developer — Remote

About The Position

We're hiring a Junior Software Developer to join a small, fast-moving engineering team building a consumer-facing web application. This role offers significant flexibility in terms of title, time commitment (full-time, part-time, side-gig, fractional), and commitment duration (short-term, long-term, intermittent). No degree is required; bootcamp graduates, self-taught developers, and career changers are welcome. The company is a funded startup aiming to launch by the end of Q3 2026, requiring rapid feature development and capital raising. Successful launch may lead to permanent positions. The company is also open to long-term "side gig" relationships. We are a credible, funded, remote-first startup backed by a growing team, currently pre-launch and moving at a fast pace. The role involves working with a functional product and an established engineering team, picking up well-scoped tickets, shipping clean code, and growing within a structured and documented codebase. This is a genuine opportunity to learn from senior engineers in a production environment, working on features used by real users, receiving educational code reviews, and having direct access to senior engineers.

Requirements

  • Solid fundamentals in a modern frontend framework (React, Vue, Angular) and a backend language (Python, Ruby, Node — we'll teach you whichever you're missing)
  • Can read and navigate an existing codebase — you don't need everything explained line by line
  • Understand the basics: version control (Git), REST APIs, relational databases
  • Self-directed learner — you Google before you ask, but you ask before you're stuck for hours
  • Strong async communicator — you write clear PR descriptions and flag blockers early

Nice To Haves

  • Previous contributions to open source or side projects you can show
  • Bootcamp, CS degree, or self-taught — we care about what you can do, not how you learned it
  • Comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments

Responsibilities

  • Build features — pick up tickets, implement them, get them reviewed, ship them
  • Fix bugs — investigate issues, trace them through the stack, and resolve them
  • Write tests — maintain and extend test coverage as you go
  • Participate in code reviews — review others' code and learn from reviews of yours
  • Improve as an engineer — ask questions, pair when stuck, and level up through real production work

Benefits

  • Flexible Title
  • Flexible Time (full-time, part-time, side-gig, fractional)
  • Flexible Commitment (short-term, long-term, intermittent)
  • Up to $95,000 max total annual compensation in Tier 1 cities
  • Cash and equity components to be negotiated
  • Compensation structured accordingly for fractional or hourly arrangements
  • Remote-first
