Junior Security Engineer

About The Position

As a member of the Argo Security Engineering & Architecture Team, you will be responsible for staying up to date with recent cybersecurity threats and technologies. This is an entry-level position focusing on protecting Argo’s information systems and networks. This role involves monitoring security systems, identifying vulnerabilities and exposures, and implementing scalable corrective measures to enhance protection. A successful person in this role will have strong organizational skills including the ability to manage time across several areas of focus, the ability to communicate clearly to partnering IT teams as well as non-technical stakeholders and be thorough and precise when performing tasks. Daily activity includes evaluation and response to incidents and critical alerts to drive quick resolution. You will assist in the coordination of incident response to include assessing, investigating, and documenting review and triage of actionable alerts. As an engineer, you will be given co-ownership of various security tools to drive improvements and ensure new features and functions are reviewed and implemented. As a member of the Security Engineering & Architecture Team, you will gain expertise and experience working with Secure Web Gateway, Cloud Posture Management, SaaS Application Posture Management, Network Security, DNS Security, Endpoint Security, Threat Hunting, Email Security, and Data Security.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity or a related field, or a high school diploma with 3+ years of related IT/Security experience.
  • Relevant internships, co-ops, or academic projects will be considered.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks and standards (NIST, CIS Controls, ISO 27001).
  • Basic knowledge of network and system security concepts (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, DNS).
  • Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their native security controls.
  • Familiarity with security tools such as SIEM, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection.
  • Understanding of identity and access management, authentication, and privilege controls.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow established processes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn, adapt to new tools and technologies, and grow within the field of cybersecurity.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA Security+ (highly preferred for junior candidates).
  • CompTIA CySA +, SSCP, or cloud security fundamentals (AWS, Azure, or Microsoft) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze alerts from security tools, including SIEM, EDR, and vulnerability management platforms.
  • Assist with triage, investigation, and documentation of security incidents under guidance from senior team members.
  • Support vulnerability scanning, patch validation, and remediation tracking across infrastructure and applications.
  • Perform basic access control reviews and support identity and access management processes (i.e., MFA, Active Director, privilege monitoring).
  • Help document security processes, playbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in compliance and audit activities (i.e., NYDFS, Cybersecurity Regulation, NAIC Model Law).
  • Assist with security awareness campaigns and user training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IT infrastructure, applications, and business teams to ensure secure system configurations.
