Carilion Clinic is seeking a medical physicist to support proton therapy in its new, state-of-the-art Cancer Center. This role is focused on proton therapy as the program ramps up, with potential integration into the larger therapy department over time. The clinic is in the early stages of assessment and budgeting for proton therapy RTP, QA, and treatment device needs. New hires will play an active role in the adoption of proton therapy. The Physics Department team consists of 6 physicists (therapy and diagnostic), 3 dosimetrists, 2 physics assistants, and a LINAC engineer. The department supports the Radiation Oncology Department, physicians, Y90 infusions, GammaTile implants, a theranostics program, and leads radiation safety throughout the 7-hospital system. The new Cancer Center is scheduled to open for patient treatments in January 2028, with proton therapy to follow.
